ITALIAN LAW HAS ESTABLISHED THAT THE RISK OF SLIPPERINESS MUST BE ASSESSED.
Decree Law 81 of 9 April 2008, Annex IV – Workplace requirements, point 1.3.2 states that ‘The floors of premises must be fixed, stable and non-slip.’
Presidential Decree 503 of 24 July 1996 establishes the structural requirements that flooring (in public and private buildings open to the public) must comply with and, specifically, refers to Ministerial Decree 236/89, which in point 4.1.2 states that ‘Floors must normally be horizontal and coplanar with each other and, in common areas and areas for public use, non-slip,’ specifying subsequently in point 8.2.2 that “Non-slip flooring means flooring made of materials whose coefficient of friction, measured according to the method of the British Ceramic Research Association Ltd. (B.C.R.A.) Rep. CEC. 6-81, is greater than the following values:
0.40 for a leather sliding element on dry flooring;
0.40 for a standard hard rubber sliding element on wet flooring.
Our treatment is carried out by specialised B Systems Service applicators and is essential for slippery floors to comply with Ministerial Decree 236/89 and further detailed in Presidential Decree 253 and Legislative Decree 81/2008.
To assess the slipperiness risk of your surfaces, our technicians use Floor Slide Control: a computerised system that detects and documents, in a written report, the friction coefficient of the flooring in place, in real conditions of use, whether dry or wet.
